Natacha Thiels, Mechatronics Engineer

What is your role at BlueNav?

As a mechatronics engineer, I am part of the electronics design office while also collaborating with the mechanical division. My goal is to work on projects combining mechanics, electronics and programming, in order to have a global vision of product design.

Why do you think hybridization is the ideal solution for boaters?

I haven’t sailed much in my life, and I’ve used electric rather than thermal engines. When running the thermal engine instead of the electric one on the test boat, I realize how quiet and pleasant electric navigation is, which allows you to better appreciate the environment: the birds, the waves and the sound of the water.

What is your connection to water and the ocean?

I really like taking advantage of the ocean to swim, surf, admire the horizon, listen. I also appreciate the moments of serenity it offers, whether sailing or observing the seascapes. This connection reminds me of the importance of preserving these fragile ecosystems and respecting their harmony.

Nina Forde, Research Engineer

What is your role at BlueNav?

I am a research engineer, and I develop algorithms allowing finer maneuverability of boats, with optimal adaptability for all types of boats and navigation conditions.

Why do you think hybridization is the ideal solution for boaters?

Hybridization today represents a response to ecological challenges by integrating technological advances, while offering boaters an alternative that can remind them of their classic navigation habits.

What is your connection to water and the ocean?

Passionate about the ocean since I was young, I have been surfing for three years and recently started sailing. The ocean is an integral part of my life, and I am motivated to contribute to its preservation.

Hélène Davaux, Acquisition Specialist

What is your role at BlueNav?

I am an Acquisition Specialist. This means that I am looking for how to address our target online, through which channel and with which message to bring qualified leads to our site and boost our sales. The profitability of marketing efforts is at the heart of my concerns!

Why do you think hybridization is the ideal solution for boaters?

I am convinced that our solution is the right one to reduce emissions in our sector drastically and quickly. The simple and rapid addition of an electrical solution to a boat meets the challenge of environmental transformation in the nautical sector. In addition, our Smart features, such as the virtual anchor, meet the need for navigation simplification expressed by sailors.

How do you imagine the future of electric boating?

I imagine that, as in the automotive sector, unified regulations at European level will support the energy transition in the nautical sector.

What is your connection to water and the ocean?

I am originally from Brussels but I have had the privilege of living and working by the ocean for 10 years, whether on the coast of Aquitaine, Brittany or Ireland. The ocean has become essential! I love surfing and winter swimming which invigorates you!

Why do you think hybridization is the ideal solution for boaters?

Hybridization is the ideal solution for boaters because it blends the reliability and range of traditional combustion engines with the eco-friendliness and smoothness of electric power. It allows boaters to extend their journeys, cut down on emissions, and embrace greener alternatives, all while maintaining the performance and freedom they love. It allows to enjoy the best of both worlds.

How do you imagine the future of electric boating?

The future of electric boating looks bright, with improvements in battery technology and clean energy pushing the industry toward greener, quieter, and more efficient boats. As environmental concerns grow, electric boats are set to become more popular, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuel-powered vessels and helping reduce emissions in the maritime sector. Our BlueNav Hybrid Solution offers a soft transition into this direction.

What is your connection to water and the ocean?

From a young age, I’ve been surrounded by water, and the ocean has always captivated me. Sailing, watersports, and scuba diving are not just hobbies—they’re where I find inspiration and recharge. I believe in the importance of preserving our oceans, and that’s one of the main reasons I joined BlueNav.

Do you think women are well-represented in the maritime industry?

We start to see more women in the maritime industry. However women are still underrepresented in the maritime industry, especially in leadership roles and technical positions. Although women’s participation is gradually increasing, much remains to be done to ensure equal opportunities and greater visibility for women in this sector.
